Movie Montage Monday: Baby Got Back

Today’s montage isn’t technically a montage, but who cares when it’s this awesome?

YouTuber DonDraperSaysWhat (what!?) put together this real thick and juicy supercut of movie characters performing Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” using over 295 different movie clips. TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY FIVE. Show off.

Yeah, this idea has been done plenty of times before with other songs, but my proverbial anaconda don’t want none unless you’ve got buns, hun.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPcapo5ZB_o

And of course the “me so horny” clip is from Full Metal Jacket, because as a culture that samples quotes from movies to put in our rap songs (NWA) which are in turn sampled by other rappers (Sir Mix-a-lot) and then remixed by the internet, we’ve come full circle.

[Thanks UPROXX]

What the hell is Movie Montage Monday?

Every Monday I come up with a new theme and post a series of related movie montages. There’s no real reason for it, I just really like montages. Also it’s kind of a challenge to myself to see how long I can keep it going. I’m bound to run out of themes eventually, right?

Movie Montage Monday: Let’s Do Drugs!

Drug Montage

Is doing drugs really as amazing as Hollywood makes it seem? There’s a person I know, who’s a friend of a friend of another friend (you probably wouldn’t know them) who says yes. But you shouldn’t do them.

21 Jump Street

Best fictional drug name ever.

Requiem for a Dream

All 102 minutes of Aronofsky’s depressing, soul-crushing drug fable can be summed up with “Drugs are bad, mmkay?”

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

We can’t stop here, this is bat country!

Blow

Johnny Depp should just star in every drug movie. Especially when he looks this hot.

Go

Is Mannie on drugs, or just really excited about the supermarket’s low prices?

Trainspotting

There’s a reason why Trainspotting is frequently cited as one of the best drug movies of all time. This montage is one of them.

Movie Montage Monday: Are We There Yet?

Are we there yet?

They say that getting there is half the fun. But the people who go around saying that have probably never pissed their pants, ate sandwiches a dog peed on, swam across the ocean, or jumped out of a plane with nothing but a raft. At least they had montages to help them get there faster.

Vacation

Just one of the many reasons why I would never go on a road trip with Clark Griswold.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

I would, however, go on a road trip with Ferris Bueller in a heartbeat.

Road Trip

Because it’s YOUR DOG.

Movie Montage Monday: The Safety Dance

So I’m stuck here at the office working late, wrapping up the design on an incredibly lame presentation. I didn’t have adequate time to prepare the usual awesome collection of montages I wanted to, so today’s post is a bit of a cop out.

However, it’s still awesome.

I wish I could say I was the one who created this glorious ’80s Movie Dance Montage, but alas credit goes to YouTube user mallodw.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_O0vdx6MzzQ

Not only does it feature dance scenes from (almost) every one of your favorite ’80s movies, the whole thing is pretty well-synced to one of my all-time favorite 80′s songs, The Safety Dance.

Is it safe to dance?

Movie Montage Monday: Clean It Up!

Cleaning Montage

Ever notice how much fun cleaning looks when it’s in a montage?

Revenge of the Nerds

This cleaning montage has it all: nerds, robots, water bucket shenanigans, and a cheesy ’80s song. If there was an award for The Perfect Cleaning Montage, I’d give it to this movie.

Bring it On

Hot, soapy girls in bikinis washing cars. Worth watching for the shot of Eliza Dushku, um, servicing the car antenna alone.

Mary Poppins

A wholesome palette cleanser after that last montage.

Overboard

Sure, she uses some unconventional methods, but Goldie Hawn gets the job done.

Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead

The dishes are done, man.

Mr. Mom

Michael Keaton knows a thing or two about cleaning montages…but not so much about cleaning.

Adventures in Babysitting

I learned all my “oh shit” panic mode cleaning tips from Elisabeth Shue. The montage starts at 8:10.

Movie Montage Monday: 80′s Dance Practice

80s Dance Practice Montage

In an ongoing series about movie montages, the dance practice theme was bound to come up sooner or later. Almost every dance movie includes some sort of practice montage, but since I’ve been on a big eighties music kick this week (as if I’m never not on an eighties music kick), I decided to keep today’s collection of montages confined to the decade when it was considered stylish to wear three layers of colored socks over tights, even if you weren’t a dancer.

Put on your sparkly leotard and dance along at home!

Breakin’

You ain’t no street dancer and you know nothin’ about what we do. You don’t even have a cool street name like Special K.

Girls Just Want to Have Fun

The good old days when Sarah Jessica Parker was hot. Here’s Janie and Jeff practicing for the big D-TV contest with a little help from Shannon Doherty and Pepsi product placement.

Stayin’ Alive

The opening credits to Stayin’ Alive, the 1983 sequel to Saturday Night Fever, gave us John Travolta in tights and a headband dancing the shit out of it. Gay rumors? What gay rumors?

Dirty Dancing

One of the most memorable scenes from 1989′s Dirty Dancing (which totally ripped off The Lift from Girls Just Want to Have Fun, btw). I always wanted a pair of silver sparkly shoes just like Baby’s, even if I’d probably never wear them. Oh how I miss late eighties era Patrick Swayze.

Movie Montage Monday: The Makeover

Makeover Montage

Funfact: quite unintentionally, all five of today’s makeover montages are from movies made in the 1990′s.

Dumb & Dumber

A parody of Julia Roberts’ classic makeover scene in Pretty Woman, Harry and Lloyd get all gussied up for the big charity event where they’ll spend an enchanted evening acting like total fuckwads.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhnEqM4vv0k

Clueless

I’m one of those weird girls who loathes most chick flicks, but Clueless is a rare exception (shh! don’t tell anyone). It came out during the height of Alicia Silverstone’s popularity, whom I’ll admit to having a huge girlcrush on in the ’90s when she was doing super sexy things like this and this. It also stars an adorable Brittany Murphy (who sadly passed away in 2009) as Tai, the fashion victim in this obligatory makeover clip.

[flowplayer src='/video/clueless.flv' width=450 height=300]

Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead

Admit it: you had a crush on Christina Applegate and you love this movie.

[flowplayer src='/video/donttellmom.flv' width=450 height=300]

To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar

A movie that somehow manages to make Patrick Swayze and Wesley Snipes (and John Leguizamo) in drag tolerable for 109 minutes.

[flowplayer src='/video/towongfoo.flv' width=450 height=300]

Ms. Doubtfire

Winner of the Best Makeover Montage in the History of Ever.

Movie Montage Monday: Life’s a Beach

Life's a Beach

I’m on a much-needed vacation in Myrtle Beach this week, so I thought I’d celebrate with a series of beach-themed montages: sun, sand, surf–and sharks!

Jaws

Classic montage of tourists arriving in the quaint, seaside, shark-infested village of Amity.

[flowplayer src='/video/jaws.flv' width=450 height=300]

Cocktail

The beach, Tom Cruise, and a cheesy musical montage is a surefire recipe for ’80s romance.

[flowplayer src='/video/cocktail.flv' width=450 height=300 autoplay=false]

The Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon gets the honor of being my first NSFW montage of Movie Montage Mondays.

[flowplayer src='/video/bluelagoon.flv' width=450 height=300 autoplay=false]

The Naked Gun

Totally silly, beachy, good timey fun. Plus, giant condoms!

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTSjhm2t8ms

Blue Crush

Blue Crush is pretty underrated as surfing movies go, which is a shame because it’s full of montages like this one that show off gorgeous shots of hot girls riding big, beautiful, blue waves.

[flowplayer src='/video/bluecrush.flv' width=450 height=300 autoplay=false]

Beaches

Death’s a beach too.

Movie Montage Monday: I Want Candy

Candy Montage

It’s Movie Montage Monday! And I’m using “Monday” loosely because I’m just barely sneaking today’s collection of montages in before midnight. I ran into some–um–let’s call them technical difficulties while pulling some of these clips together.

I’ve been on a major sugar kick lately, so today’s theme is all about candy. I’ve been sneaking Haribo Gummi Raspberries, Caramel Creams, and Cadbury Dairy Milk bars over the past few weeks in combination with copious amounts of Rock Star energy drink because I’ve been under a lot of stress. Basically any day now my heart is going to explode.

Anyway, onto the montages!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Who can take tomorrow and dip it in a dream, separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream? The Candy Man can. You know what else the candy man does? Creep me the hell out.

[flowplayer src='http://shezcrafti.com/video/candyman.flv' width=450 height=300]

Chocolat

Chocolat makes me crave chocolate every time I watch it.

[flowplayer src='http://shezcrafti.com/video/chocolat.flv' width=450 height=300]

Garfield’s Halloween Adventure

Required viewing for me every Halloween. They don’t make specials like this anymore.

[flowplayer src='http://shezcrafti.com/video/garfield-halloween.flv' width=450 height=300]

Marie Antoinette

And here’s the fabulous candy, champagne and shoes montage from Marie Antoinette that inspired today’s theme, appropriately set to Bow Wow Wow:

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4PcMZJMdqU

Edit: I so wanted to include the brief but fantastic Honeyduke’s candy shop scene from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, but upon further examination I had to rule it out because it’s not technically a montage. I have to adhere to my own silly rules, you know.

Movie Montage Monday: Superheroes in Training

Superheroes Training Montage

So, here’s a new thing that I’m doing:

Every Monday I will be handpicking a selection of movie montages that have a common theme or relate to each other in some form or another. Or maybe it’ll be a montage made up of montages, or a montage about montages–who knows!

Superheroes in Training

To kick things off, I’m starting with a subject that’s near and dear to my heart: superheroes. Ever wonder how Bruce Wayne transformed himself into Batman, or how a group of awkward mutant teenagers became the X-MEN? Was it through years of rigorous training? Nay! It was the power of movie montage.

Why Montages?

Because montages, aside from typically being set to awesome music, are the magical Cliff’s Notes of editing. How else could filmmakers cram so much information and lengthy passages of time into a two-hour movie? Team America said it best:

Show a lot of things happing at once,
Remind everyone of what’s going on (what’s going on?)
And with every shot you show a little improvement
To show it all would take too long
That’s called a montage (montage)!

Where would we be as a society without Julia Robert’s shopping montage in Pretty Woman to remind us that even hookers are real people with feelings? Or Rocky’s inspirational training montage to imagine in our heads as we work out on the treadmill? A world without montages is a world I don’t want to live in.

And why Mondays?

Simply because I thought “Movie Montage Monday” had a nice ring to it. If this was a game of Scattergories, I’d have just scored triple points.
