You may have heard about this because it’s all over the goddamn internet today, but here’s the jist:
So, there’s this woman who went to a Daniel Tosh stand-up comedy show yesterday and got offended by some of his jokes, which involved the subject of rape. After (failing at) heckling the comedian by yelling out, “Actually, rape is never funny!” Tosh then turned the tables on her and directed some extremely rapey jokes her way, causing her to flee the club in a panic. Her friend later posted about the incident on Tumblr, thus causing an instant internet shitstorm. Daniel Tosh has since apologized.
It’s one thing to get offended by rape jokes. It’s quite another to go to a Daniel Fucking Tosh stand-up comedy show and get offended by rape jokes. However, the woman has claimed she was unfamiliar with Tosh’s act, which explains the extreme butthurt she must have felt when getting hit in the face with the raw power of Daniel Tosh’s lulz, which are not for the faint of heart. So I’m giving her a free pass today. And hugs.
But I’m not giving you, The Internet, a free pass.
I’m directing today’s Fail Horn at the fifty percent or so of you out there who can’t take a joke, even when it’s about rape.
I’m especially disappointed in you if you’re offended by this particular incident that didn’t happen to you and for which you weren’t there to witness. Terrible things happen to people every day; we need to be able to joke about them. Taking everything so seriously all the time only gives more power to whatever it is that offends you. If you don’t like what someone is saying, you can always just, you know, stop listening.
And before you go getting all “But how would you feel if YOU were the target of a rape joke?” you should know I’m actually just a high-functioning preserved head in a jar who sometimes writes stupid blog posts, which I’m forced to dictate to a complex machine I’ve cobbled together made from a Furby and a Drinky Bird. Even if it were physically possible, trust me—nobody would want to rape this.
So congratulations, People Who Can’t Take Rape Jokes, you win today’s Fail Horn.

Update: This follow-up story to “Daniel Tosh Rapegate 2012” helps set the record straight and proves, once again, why it’s always a good idea to reserve judgement and refrain from making stupid comments about something until you know all the facts.
